Research

Street Yoga provides free yoga, wellness and meditation classes to homeless youth, and youth at risk of homelessness. Our research endeavors focus on gathering information that will help our students move towards healthy, sustainable independence in their own lives.

Guiding Principles

Our research work is guided by the following three core principles:

  • Yoga is an intentional act which leads to transformation and healing.
  • Everyone involved in our research must benefit. The only studies worth undertaking are those that illuminate the mysteries of our own lives, and the lives of those we work with.
  • We intend to shed light on the holistic needs of our population, and in so doing offer awareness of the inate capacity we all share for self healing.

Our research is dedicated to exploring the possibility of transformation and healing through yoga. It grows from the ancient principle of Svadhyaya to bring about a continual practice of self-study in light of evolving life practices –of which yoga and healing are the key components of our work.

Focus

Our research is focused on the nexus of mindfulness and homelessness, especially relating to youth who are or have been homeless, or those young people most at-risk of homelessness.

Collaboration

Street Yoga is actively pursuing collaborative opportunities with university researchers, yoga professionals, homeless youth service providers and those generally interested in supporting our core mission. We are currently devising our guidelines for researchers as it relates to our work. For further information, please consult our website, and call or email us for further discussions.
